PAC - Ground breaking Ceremony - February 2022

Performing Arts and Music has been an important part of the fabric of King’s College for almost it’s entire history. Many Old Collegians will have happy memories of time spent learning an instrument, being involved in the Choir, Glee Club, or Big House Music or performing on stage in one of the school theatrical productions. Early Friday morning, as the sun rose over King’s College, a small crowd gathered to commemorate the blessing and ground-breaking of the new Performing Arts Centre construction site – the build is officially underway! Senior Chaplain Reverend Gareth Walters and Teacher of Te Reo Māori Leo Tahitahi blessed the site and then Acting Headmaster John Payne and Head of Performing Arts Emma Featherstone spoke to those gathered of the huge benefit the new resource will provide to students and the College community. Those involved in the ground-breaking ceremony included, Acting Headmaster John Payne, Chair of the Board of Governors Simon Power, Head of Performing Arts Emma Featherstone, student representatives and at the centre of the photo, major benefactor Old Collegian Michael Flanagan (Peart, 1951-55). It is important to also note that the Performing Arts Centre was designed by Old Collegian and architect Andrew Patterson (School, 1974-78).
